Why And When To Buy A High Chair?
You might be wondering if you really need a high chair. Of course, you and your baby will survive without one, but all parents can agree that a great high chair makes life heaps easier. The fact of the matter is that your baby does need somewhere to eat, so why not make it a place they can sit comfortably, not get mess everywhere, be safe, and be kept still long enough to eat their whole meal.
A high chair raises your baby up to your height to make it easier for you to feed them. Some have a built in table that goes in front of them. Get the best portable high chair, and you can take it along with you to restaurants to be guaranteed your baby has somewhere safe to sit. If you frequently go on trips, you might look to find the best travel high chair. These usually fold down small so they can be packed in luggage or vehicles.
Babies are usually ready to sit in a high chair at around six months of age although they may need a small high chair. Some high chairs are actually made for newborns with a reclining “chair” that’s more like a cot. Usually they also convert into proper high chairs.
Choosing The Best Baby High Chair 2024
So, you’ve decided to commit to your baby’s comfort and safety. You type “buy baby high chair” into Google but how do you know you’re finding the best highchairs? In order to find the best baby feeding chair, it’s important to consider the safety of the product, functionality, ease of use, cleaning, comfort and of course the high chair prices because you’ll want to find a product which offers good value for money.
Safety And Sturdiness
Obviously, you’ll only want to consider high chairs that can ensure your baby’s safety.
Things to consider include overall quality, a good wide width at the base to give the chair more stability, a locking mechanism to keep the seat in its place, safety straps to prevent them slipping down, and pinch protectors (especially if you have older children about), and BPA-free plastics.
Additionally, never set a high chair down close to a counter or table (or any reachable standing object) as your child may be able to push hard enough against it to topple the high chair.
Functionality
Some high chairs are just chairs that are raised up so that your baby can sit up at the level of the dinner table. Others have more features, such as wheels that let you easily move it about more easily, a tray/table for baby to eat from (bonus points if it’s removable), a cushioned seat so they can sit for longer without getting uncomfortable, and padded straps. Some might come with nice extras too like cutlery, bibs, and more.
Ease Of Use
No product is a good product if it’s not easy to use. If you’re going to be transporting your chair, you’ll want one that you can easily fold up to save space. Consider the weight of the product too, both for portability and for day to day use. Wheels are a handy feature to have as well.
Cleaning
Removable trays are always a good idea since as you likely know, babies don’t usually have the best of table manners and they will end up with mess everywhere. A removable tray is way easier to clean in the sink. Some trays let you run them through the dishwasher which makes things even easier. A seat/cushion that’s easy to clean is something to consider too; some can be wiped clean, if it uses a fabric, you might consider getting one with a machine washable cover.
Comfort
The most basic high chair is usually not particularly comfy; these are the kinds without any cushioning and just basic safety straps that can dig into your baby if they move about too much. Others can be super comfortable with cushioned seats, padded straps, and leg rests. If you get a super comfy chair, it doesn’t have to just be a high chair for mealtimes, your baby can use the chair to play with toys while you’re busy in the kitchen etc.

Oribel Cocoon High Chair Review
Rating: 4.5
Specifications:
- Age Range: 6 months to 3 years
- Weight of High Chair: 9.75 kg
- Max Child Weight: 20 kg
Oribel’s chair can be used with babies from six months old up to three years, so you do get good use out of it. For young babies who aren’t yet comfortable sitting up on their own, they can use the chair without the table in a reclined position. Once baby is ready to sit up and practise feeding themselves, use it as a regular high chair with a table, up until they are old enough to sit at the dinner table.
The chair has three different reclining positions – use it for feeding and napping, as well as six height adjustments. The table has a clever design with two layers – take the top tray off (not stated if it’s dishwasher safe) after a messy mealtime and you’re still left with a table underneath that can be used for playtime. The seat doesn’t use fabric (which can be easily dirtied) but instead a soft EVA foam – just wipe clean after use, easy!
It weighs 9.75 kg – not too heavy. Plus, it has two wheels on the front of the chair which make moving it around at home no trouble. Along with the ease of use of this chair, it has a lovely, simple design – white with a pale green chair which could blend with any home’s decor. The tray/table is large on this chair but a handy feature is how you can take it off and secure it to the back of the chair with magnets, making the size much smaller for storage.
Benefits:
- Modern and minimalist design
- Easy to assemble
- Waterproof seat for easy cleaning
Drawbacks:
- Tray won’t fit in smaller dishwashers

Graco Duo Dinner Benny and Bell 3-in-1 Highchair Review
Rating: 4.5
Specifications:
- Age Range: Newborns and up
- Weight of High Chair: 11.8 kg
- Max Child Weight: 18 kg
This Graco high chair is a three in one chair meaning it’s suitable for infants up to toddlers. Infants can use the chair without the table in a reclined position. Once your baby is around six months old, they can sit upright in the chair and use the table to practise feeding themselves. Toddlers can still use the chair as a booster up until around four years old or whenever they decide they’re too grown up!
The chair has five height positions and an adjustable footrest. The seat is well cushioned too. The tray can be removed with only one hand, and it can even go in the dishwasher. If you’re not using the chair, you can fold it up compactly for storage or transport. It also has two wheels on the front side to make moving it about your house easy.
On top of the practical benefits, this chair comes in a lovely colour scheme with neutral, pale colours that won’t look brash in any home. The seat is machine washable which is such a relief for busy parents. It weighs 11.8 kg.

- Extra large food tray
- Well cushioned seat

Love N Care Montana High Chair Review
Rating: 4.5
Specifications:
- Age Range: Newborns and up
- Weight of High Chair: 9 kg
- Max Child Weight: 18 kg
This chair is suitable for babies around six months old up until around four years old. You can adjust the height to seven different positions. The table has a clever design – it has two layers, just take off the first layer after a messy mealtime and put it through the dishwasher, and you’re still left with a table underneath that can be used for playtime.
The chair weighs 9 kg so it’s not too much trouble to move it about. It can also be folded flat for storage although it doesn’t fold horizontally so if you have a small car and want to take a chair with you on trips then this one might not be the best. It has very small wheels on the bottom for moving it around at home, although they are better suited to moving over hard floors than carpet.
Benefits:
- Height can be adjusted to 7 positions
- Small wheels at the bottom make it easily portable!

Ingenuity Trio 3-in-1 Smartclean High Chair Review
Rating: 4.5
Specifications:
- Age Range: Newborns and up
- Weight of High Chair: 9.3 kg
- Max Child Weight: 22.7 kg
This chair is a three in one design. You get a booster seat that sits on a chair, a fully functional chair with table, and a toddler chair for older kids. Your baby can use it from around six months of age, up until they’re toddler or older as a booster seat. Due to the clever design, you can actually use this chair with two children at once making it a solid investment for a young family.
The table has a two layer design so that you can wash one in the dishwasher and baby still has a table to play on. The seat doesn’t use fabric but uses a soft foam instead, which means you can just wipe it clean without needing to wash the cushion constantly.
This chair has a lovely blue colour paired with a neutral grey. It weighs 9.3 kg so it’s not super heavy. It is quite large though (54.6 x 87.6 x 110.5 cm) and doesn’t fold down so be sure it can comfortably fit in the room you want to use it. The wide bass does make it very sturdy and safe and it has two wheels on the back which make moving it around at home easy.
Benefits:
- Three in one design
- Easy to clean: Wipeable seat and a dishwasher safe tray
Drawbacks:
- Doesn’t fold for easy storage

Childcare 360 High Chair Review
Rating: 4.0
Specifications:
- Age Range: 6 months – 15 kg
- Weight of High Chair: 7.5 kg
- Max Child Weight: 15 kg
This chair by Childcare might have the most ingenious design we’ve ever seen. Use it as a high chair, or once baby is older, convert it to a stool for your toddler and then to a higher stool once they’ve outgrown it. You can also use the stool yourself in the kitchen etc. when you need to reach something up high – means this product always has a purpose even when baby is grown up.
You can rotate the chair and lock it into 12 positions – makes feeding your baby easier since there’s no need to physically move the chair. You can also adjust the footrest. The table has a removable tray on top for easy cleaning (not stated if dishwasher friendly) and can be adjusted to two positions. The seat pad is also removable but it’s easy to wipe clean without taking it off.
We love the design of this chair – not plastic heavy like most high chairs. It has wooden legs and a PU leather (not cheap looking) chair. It’s such a solid, sturdy piece of kit but surprisingly weighs just 7.5 kg so it’s no bother to move and since it rotates you might not even need to. This chair is a solid investment since it can stay in the family for years and years to come.
Benefits:
- Rotating chair that locks into 12 positions
- Lightweight
- High quality with wooden solid legs
Drawbacks:
- Expensive

This Chicco high chair is suitable for infants up to toddlers and kids. Convert it from a reclining chair for young babies, to a fully functional high chair with table, or to a toddler standalone chair to be used at the dinner table.
The table has a two layer design so that you can wash the top (although Chicco doesn’t state if it’s dishwasher safe). You only need one hand to remove it too which is always nice for multitasking parents. The cushioned seat can be removed for cleaning. Adjust the seat to six different positions. The footrest can also be adjusted as your child grows and the padded shoulder straps are good for wriggly babies.
Chicco’s chair weighs 10.4 kg. It has four caster wheels so you can move the chair around without needing to lift it at all. Love N Care Techno Highchair Review
Rating: 3.5
Specifications:
- Age Range: Newborns and up
- Weight of High Chair: 8 kg
- Max Child Weight: 22 kg
This chair is for babies six months and up. Use it as a standalone high chair for babies, or remove the table to use it as a toddler chair. It has two sets of padding with the top being used for infants it can then be removed for older babies.
You can adjust the chair to six heights and adjust the backrest into three different positions. You can lift off the top layer of the table with one hand to wash (although Love N Care doesn’t state if it’s dishwasher safe). It also has a footrest so that your child can sit more comfortably for longer.
The design uses a neutral colour scheme with dark grey for the seat and off white and silver for the frame. It weighs 8 kg meaning it’s not too heavy and it has four caster wheels to make moving it around your house a breeze. Lock the wheels when it’s in the right place to stop it moving on it’s own. You can fold the chair flat when you need to store it.

Keter Multi Dine Highchair Review
Rating: 4.5
Specifications:
- Age Range: Six months and up
- Weight of High Chair: 5.1 kg
- Max Child Weight: 25 kg
This chair can be used by babies six months old up until around four years old. Adjust it to three different positions for different development stages: high chair, booster chair, and junior chair.
The chair isn’t cushioned and is instead made with smooth moulded plastic making it so easy to wipe clean after mealtimes. But it does unfortunately mean that baby probably can’t sit for extended periods in this chair (best for mealtimes only). It comes with a two layered table so you can remove the top tray and run it through the dishwasher. It also has a footrest and includes a five point harness.
Keter’s chair has a stylish vintage inspired design in green and white. It doesn’t have wheels but it is lightweight at only 5.1 kg so it’s not difficult to just pick up and move. The chair isn’t particularly portable so it’s best to purchase as a home only chair.
Benefits:
- Easy to Clean
- Durable and built from high quality materials
- Nice vintage green and white colour
Drawbacks:
- No wheels makes the chair not so portable

Beaba Up and Down High Chair Review

Specifications:
- Age Range: Newborns and up
- Weight of High Chair: 5.1 kg

Use this chair when your baby is six months up to 36 months (three years old). When baby is older, you can then remove the leg divider and table as they can use it as a toddler chair.
With this high chair, you can adjust the height to six different heights. You can easily remove the tray to wash it although Beaba hasn’t told us if it’s dishwasher safe. The cushioning is also removable to make cleaning it easier and you can use the chair without a cushion at all and baby will still be comfortable, a nice option to have with very messy babies.
This chair has a design that we love, with a grey seat with a metal and wooden frame that’s got an eye catching shape to it. It weighs 7.4 kg so even though there are no wheels it’s not much trouble moving it about.
Benefits:
- Modern and contemporary look high chair that will look good in any home
- You can easily adjust the height within seconds
Drawbacks:
- Not foldable for easy storage
